Rio Rimac Basin in Peru

In collaboration with Peru’s meteorological and hydrological agency (SENAMHI), HRC implemented and calibrated a model suite to estimate and forecast soil moisture, real-time subcatchment storage and channel flow forecasts, and long-term ensemble streamflow prediction (3-4 months). The Rio Rimac basin was selected as a pilot. It is expected that the models and analyses will be extended by SENAMHI to other basins in Peru.

Satellite Rainfall for the Nile River Catchment
As part of a United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization project, HRC developed an improved multispectral satellite rainfall estimation system. The satellite rainfall estimates were input to an operational flow forecasting and reservoir management system running at the Nile Forecast Center in Cairo, Egypt, and designed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS), the Georgia Institute of Technology (GIT), FAO, and HRC in 1999.
